Life Update: Leaving Leicester
Ha, erm, so yeah, this month has been an interesting one. Did I think that I’d be prematurely leaving one of my favourite cities this time last month? Nope. Am I glad? Yes and Nope.
I’m not glad because it was premature, and not in an ideal situation. I’m not saying too much because I am not the only person involved, but in the same breath, this is my space. So just know that, if there was any way that I felt like I could have stayed, I would. This was not a decision that I made lightly. But, it’s done now and it is what it is.
The positives, though, are that I’m getting to spend a lot more time with the people that I love, and I am in a much more positive living environment. Everything is still a bit up in the air, but I’m trying to make this into the best situation it can be. I’ve even booked myself in a hotel the night before my exam (lol) is that I don’t have to worry about travelling early in the morning, so that should be nice.
(Just in case you’re wondering where I’ll be based from now on, it will be around the Midlands/Birmingham/Staffordshire/Nottinghamshire area- which is basically all over the place, lol).
All in all, March is always a month that I bloody dread because it is such a hard month for my family and I. This March marked 13 years since I lost my uncle, so 13 years since my heart broke. This March has been particularly exhausting, but I like to think that that means that April can only be better, right?
Let’s hope so.
What I’ve Been Watching/Reading
Unfortunately, much of my reading time has been taken up by course books this month, so I have little by way of recommendations. However, I have started Becoming by Michelle Obama and I’m loving it so far.
In terms of TV, Zack and I finished all of the seasons of Grace & Frankie on Netflix this month, and I think I may have actually shed a little tear. We have absolutely loved watching it this past month or so, and I’m glad that new episodes are coming soon because I cannot part with it for too long.
We also, of course, binge-watched the new season of Queer Eye and finished it in 3 days. We even tried to savour it this time, honest. Queer Eye is the perfect pick-me-up TV, no matter how you are feeling, and it has really helped bring some light relief to this time.
What I’ve Been Wearing
We also, actually, watched After Life by Ricky Gervais on Netflix, and loved that too. I am not the biggest Ricky Gervais fan, but After Life is comically genius and had me in tears more than once. It’s definitely worth the watch!
This month has brought little change to my wardrobe (I don’t think I’ve actually bought anything new, which is great!) but I’ve been enjoying re-discovering new styles.
I was recently sent a box of tights from The Legwear Co.*, the brand that deliver hosiery by subscription. Their products are super high-quality, sustainable, and they even recycle your old tights and turn them into their eco-friendly denier 50’s- lovely jubbily!
So, I’ve been trying to re-discover tights and the outfits that I can put them with, because they are pretty darn handy. Here’s me sporting their 60 denier out and about.
What I’ve Been Using
This is a new section for me. But, I’ve changed up my routines quite a bit recently so I thought I’d update you all on the products etc that I use daily.
So, you remember my Soap and Glory Skincare Saviours* post? I have been using those products religiously ever since I received them, and I ran out in the middle of this month. I wasn’t actually prepared to run out (had a lot more on my mind haha), so I had to quickly start to use some other products in replacement. However, they were nowhere near as good and my skin REBELLED because of it.
So, I’ve been out and re-purchased by S&G saviours, and I also picked up one of their foam cleansers that I have never tried before. All looks good so far, and it’s safe to say that I won’t be straying from S&G again any time soon.
I’ve also switched up my hair care routine. I’ve been using BedHead Restoring Shampoo and Conditioner and, I’ve gotta be honest, it’s made a massive difference to the texture and condition of my hair and I am impressed.
I’ve still been using Friction Free Shaving and still SWEAR by it; you can use my code HAY25** to get 25% off your first months subscription!
Changes To The Blog
Just in case you haven’t noticed (totally ok, don’t worry haha!) I have a new header/logo. I really like it actually. I’ve been wanting something simpler for a while and went to the lovely Aloha Lola Cards as per (she always does a great job).
I’m also back to posting more, hallelujah! Please be warned, third year isn’t over yet so I could very well disappear again, but for now I am BACK IN BLOGGING BUSINESS BABY (bit far? Maybe. But I’ve missed my blog).
I’ve also been thinking about a newsletter for a while, but I’m not entirely sure what I would put in it. I’ve asked on twitter whether these posts should be a newsletter instead, so you basically subscribe to receive a monthly email full of my ramblings, so we shall see.
A Whole New Room
One of the upsides to moving out, however, was getting to decorate a new room. Before I got my hands on it, this room was blue, had tartan bedding, big bulky furniture, and a canvas of a couple biking near the sea on the wall (?). So, I painted it white, added some plants and a big mirror, and created the minimalist Pinterest room of my dreams, do you like it?
I’m rather happy with it actually. I’ve put a little list below of the bits and bobs we bought that I can find online, just in case you’re interested.
Big Cushions (Homesense)
And that, my friends, was March. Gotta be honest, this post turned out to be a lot longer than I expected and I had a lot more to say than I thought, but I am completely fine with that.
Hope you enjoyed, lemme know your favourite bits of march in the comments.
