5 Steps To Help Grow Your Instagram

Ok, so small disclaimer. I am no instagram guru. I don’t even have 1,000 followers and I’m nowhere near ‘#instafamous’. But, my instagram has improved drastically these last few months. In the space of less than a week, my engagement quadroupled and all I did was a few minor things. So, I thought I’d write this post for those who, like me, are struggling to find an insta-flow and need a little bit of help.

  1. Take it off of private

Seems obvious, but my instagram was on private until very recently. This was simply because instagram introduced a new feature that links your facebook and instagram accounts automatically, meaning people I didn’t necessarily want to find my instagram or blog were. This was literally my worst nightmare and after several failed attempts at unlinking them, I gave up and put it on private. However, earlier this year I found a little hack to stop the linkage happening. This leads onto my next point…

2. Change your account to a business account
This was the only way that I could find to stop my insta linking with my personal facebook. To change to a business account, you simply click to change in settings and link it to a facebook page. I made my facebook page specifically for this reason, it has no likes or posts, but it works perfectly and now my brother’s girlfriend’s cat’s mother isn’t finding me (metaphorically of course).
3. Try and produce a theme
And by theme, I don’t mean a rigid theme that your feed must abide by, I just mean a general feel to your insta. For example, I like to brighten my images and then whitewash them to produce a sense of style. This helps people get to know your style and grows your following if people like what they see!

4. Use Hashtags
But not just your average #f4f, #tbt or #potd. Be creative! A good method is to see what accounts similar to yours but with bigger engagement and following numbers are using.
5. Join an instagram pod
This isn’t some weird cult, instagram pods are groups of bloggers/influencers who post in the pod when they’ve posted on insta and everyone in the pod goes and likes/comments on their picture. This helps traffic immensely, plus you can make some great friends from it!

And that’s the end of today’s post. I hope you’ve enjoyed it and, if you’re feeling super nice, you can follow my instagram here!
Thanks for reading.
Love,
H x

Haha! I liked your small disclaimer!
Love your theme. It is so hard to keep a theme, I always struggle with Instagram; one min I’m doing so well and the next it’s going downhill again.
Great tips and thanks for sharing.

Some great tips here – I have to admit though I suck at posting consistently and thats my main downfall! I go through phases where I’ll be obsessed and then not touch it for weeks at a time. Thanks for sharing your tips lovely.

Some great tips here, Hayley! I’ve also been working hard on my Instagram recently, I’m trying to reach 900 followers! I definitely agree that having a “theme”, however loose the term may be, definitely helps! My theme is just colourful things haha! I have been loving your posts recently and I always look forward to seeing them! Posting at the same time of day every day really helps me get likes and comments too!
